CANDIDATE – U.S. SENATE
Danny will bring great attributes, not as a career politician, but as a career public servant. Someone whose accomplishments were NOT due to being elected to office or done through a political lense. Danny brings experience in government to Utah’s US Senate race, but not the baggage of being an elected career politician. As a public servant/teacher Danny is the only Democratic candidate who can get enough votes outside of Salt Lake & Summit Counties.
Danny Drew was born and raised in Provo Utah. As the oldest of 8 children, Danny learned the importance of hard work.
As a child Danny helped his Grandfather (Maurice Marchant) political campaigns for city council as well as state legislature. In 1990, Maurice Marchant introduced Danny to Bill Orton. Bill Orton went on to serve as Democratic Congressman from 1991-1997 as representative fro Utah 3rd district.
In 1996, as a Senior in High School, Danny created the Young Democrat Club at Timpview High School, and had 50 students sign up to be members. The Timpview Young Democrats club donates the majority of their time helping the Bill Orton re-election campaign.
In 2000 Danny was a full time volunteer for Donald Dunn’s campaign attempt to win back Utahs 3rd District.
In 2001 Danny finished up his Bachelors degree and started a masters degree in Education to become a teacher.
Starting in 2002 Danny started teaching business classes. He spent a year in San Juan School District, five years in the Wasatch School District, four years in the Canyons School District, two as adult ed. director in the Duchesne County School, and three in the Jordan School District.
In 2012 Danny was invited to be part of the STAT team for a pilot the Utah State Board of Education was doing on Student Loan Objectives (SLOs), an innovative and game changing Education Reform.
Danny went on to do his doctoral dissertation on SLOs and how teachers perceived it increased their Instructional effectiveness. Danny received his Doctorate April 15, 2016.
Throughout his career Danny has always been able to improve the program he has taken over. From having 100% pass rate on district criterion reference tests while teaching in Wasatch, introducing and instituting standardized grading into the CTE department at South Hills Middle School, and increasing the number of graduates by 400% in the Adult Ed program in the Duchesne County School District. He has been successful because he has been able to work with local institutions and government agencies as partners to create and run programs that benefit not only the students he was responsible for, but that benefit the local community and society in general.
Danny will bring these attributes, not as a career politician, but as a career public servant. Someone whose accomplishments were NOT due to being elected to office or done through a political lense. Danny brings experience in government to Utahs US Senate race, but not the baggage of being an elected career politician. As a public servant/teacher Danny is the only Democratic candidate who can get enough votes outside of Salt Lake & Summit Counties.
